Because of the AIDS epidemic, there are over one million orphans in Kenya.
The HIV/AIDS pandemic has taken a huge toll on the African continent. It has killed millions, left millions more too ill to work, and has led to skyrocketing health costs. This has halted the progress of many economies. Another startling and oft-overlooked statistic is that 15 million Sub-Saharan African children have lost one or both parents from AIDS.
Kenya has been hit particularly hard by the HIV/AIDS pandemic and has a huge number of uncared for orphans. CGA is doing everything it can to combat this problem. Especially problematic is the rise in the number of child-headed households and child care-givers as well as a high prevalence of school dropouts among AIDS orphans because they have no one to support their studies and pay their fees.
