41% of the population in Kenya lives without safe drinking water.
In Kenya, water is scarce and closely guarded. Before Blood: Water Mission (BWM) came in, the Arapal community relied on a water source nearly 7 miles away, and gaining access often produced conflict with neighboring communities. Also, the community did not have a latrine, and human waste contaminated the water.
BWM helped the Arapal community by rehabilitating by installing a water tank. They also constructed latrines and educated the community members on the importance of good hygiene.
These changes transformed the Arapal community. Their chief said, "There used to be a lot of animosity amongst communities living around us. Right now we are comfortable sharing water with them because it is a lot."
